Good Luck to everyone taking part in the Surrey Half, 5k and junior runs Some tips for race day 🏃♀️
👉🏻 Pace yourself : Dont go out too fast at the start of the race, once you find your pace stick to it.
👉🏻 Stay Hydrated: Drink early on and often to maintain your energy levels and avoid cramps - dont wait until you are thirsty to drink
👉🏻 Take energy gels : IF you have used them in training - race day is not the time to try something new!
👉🏻 HAVE FUN : Embrace the pre race jitters, mid race panic and post race bliss/relief !
👉🏻 Stick to what worked in training : Don’t abandon your pre-race plan on the day - stick to what has worked for you in training.
👉🏻 The day before the race go for an EASY shake out run - a 20-25 minute jog to literally shake out your legs, and any nerves and doubts
👉🏻 Arm your friends and supporters with back up gels and drinks to give you in case you run short during the race
👉🏻 Get as much sleep as possible the night before and lay all your running kit out before you go to bed to avoid last minute panic packing and risking leaving a vital item behind.
👉🏻 As soon as you cross the finish line utter words to the effect of I am never doing that again, then a very short while later ask when the next race/event is taking place 🤣
